With other products I would have had to use a primer, with Ziollo my roof didn't need a primer, saving me both time AND money. I couldn't believe it when I was done, it felt like I just built a bathtub on my RV Roof. The roof felt like a big sheet of Rubber I just laid over it, Nothing was getting through that now!

Being able to just paint on the products was what I like the best about it. It didn't feel like I had to be an expert. If I could give advice to someone who is going to restore their RV Roof, it'd be: apply it a lot thicker than you think. It's not like paint, you want this to go down heavy!

How to Seal Your RV Roof

  1. Thoroughly clean the roof.

    For TPO RV Roofs:

    • Sand very well with 120 grit sandpaper

    For EPDM, Metal and Fiberglass RV Roofs:

    • Roughen the surface with 120 grit sandpaper
  2. Prep the surface.

    Clean with RV Roof Cleaner for all roof types.

    Use masking tape for areas not to be painted and remove with the Primer/Coating is still wet.

  3. Apply the roof coating.
    • Wipe one side of the roof lengthwise with Acetone soaked rag and apply Primer. Allow 1-2 hours to dry (Primer remains sticky)
    • Apply RV Roof Coating in a heavy coat over the Primer leaving 4-6 inches of the Primer exposed.
    • Once RV Roof Coating is dry (6-8hrs) and you can work on it, wipe the other side of the roof with Acetone soaked rag and apply Primer.
    • Apply RV Roof Coating in a heavy coat over the Primer.
    • Once dry and you can work on it, apply additional coats in opposite directions until you use up your final recommended coverage.  ie. 5 gallons for a 30 ft RV
  4. Cover the roof.
    • Apply in dry, warm temperatures.
    • 10C/50F and above.
    • Below 80% humidity.
    • Avoid direct, hot, intense sun.

Do I need a primer?

Primer is critical for TPO roof Applications. Use Ziollo TPO RV Roof Primer for TPO roofs and follow our application guideline. Primer is not needed for other common RV Roof Types.

Technically you can spray it but you would need a heavy industrial sprayer capable of spraying a silicone coating. Most campers will not have access to this equipment.

Can I coat over an existing coating or paint?

You can apply over most acrylic/latex, polyurethane, alkyd paint, epoxy paints/coatings with proper cleaning/preparation techniques. Keep in mind that when you apply over an existing coating or paint, if that coating/paint peels, our coating will peel with it as it is bonded to the existing coating/paint and not directly to the substrate. 

It is recommended to remove oil based or recently applied coatings with high solvent content prior to applying your Ziollo products. (oil interferes with bond/adhesion and solvents can deteriorate our sealant). If there is an existing Silicone Roof Coating on your RV you should be able to bond to it with Ziollo RV Roof Sealant but not with our Lap Sealant or Seam Tape

    Great sealant

    I put 3-5 gallon buckets of cool seal from Lowe's hardware it didn't stop the leaks on my rv roof so I started reading and doing my own research on rv roof sealants and ziollo rv roof sealant had the best warranty it's lifetime so I ordered it online Facebook I also ordered the seam seal tape too put both on my rv roof and so far so good it's rained hard a few times the ziollo rv roof sealant stopped all my leaks I'm very impressed with it and very satisfied. Thank you ziollo

    Silicone RV Roof Sealant

    I put down seam tape and then covered it with ziollo rv sealant. It has rained hard a couple of times so for so good. I haven't seen any leaks from the roof since I put 1 coating on the roof and seam tape
